FSOCD*: Winter Mast Maintenance

I'm fortunate to have enough room in my basement to store and work on the parts to my Flying Scot.  This is my principle sailing activity during these cold northeast winter months.

An Ocean Passage

Many sailors dream of sailing an ocean passage.  It's been a dream of mine for years. I was fortunate enough to realize this dream recently. I thought others who have thought of taking this type of trip may appreciate a view of what to expect. This is just a short blog with the highlights of the trip.

Takeout Day, The Great Escape (TGE) - a real adventure!

I had scheduled my son in-law Kelly for Sat Oct 29, rain date Oct 30, to help me, and, given the possibility of considerable snow over Saturday into Sunday we decided to get an early start and get the job done on Saturday. Little did we know. Recently I heard the following little Woody Allen joke, goes like this: If you want to make God laugh, just tell Him your plans...

Park closed sunday 10-30-11

Hello all
as Dan's note said the park is going to be closed all day Sunday 10-30-11
There is a large tree down on Harrisburg School rd as you turn off rt 563
power lines are also down and park is out of power.
Currently RT 313 between the Country place and the turn off on Rt 563 into the park is closed
the marina area is snowed in.
Lots of other roads in the area are closed.

We will be talking to the park but obviously they will have to extend the marina boats removal date.

After Hurricane Irene - Marina Photos

These photos were taken about 11 am on Sunday morning after Hurricane Irene passed the area.

There was no obvious damage in either the dry or wet slips.  The level of the lake was the highest I've seen it.

I've added several photos donated by Diane Paxton.  Thanks Diane!

Preparing your Sailboat

Take action early -- don't wait until a hurricane warning is declared. The storm's fringe activity will make preparations difficult.
