The 2009 Canoe Sailing National Championships - 5M & ACA Class

The 2009 Canoe Sailing National Championships - 5M & ACA Class Just confirmed that the event is on for this weekend.  The sailing canoes will be on the water - Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  Friday will be practice and down time.  Saturday will be day 1 - three races.  9:00 am registration, 10:00 am skippers meeting at the Thickon launch area with the first race at 11:00 am.  There will be a break between race 1 and race 2 to check rigging, sails, etc.  Race 2 will follow the break, along with race 3. Sunday brings the canoes back for three more races. To add more to the water we have Thistles racing on Saturday.  The cruising event, Ladies Day Dam Race, is hosted by the RC on Sunday.  We may have Flying Scots on Saturday or Sunday (to be decided).  Portsmouth fleet racing is reserved for Sunday, if any one shows, as most are on the RC. If you have not seen the ACA canoes race you have not rounded out your resume.  Come out to race in your fleet or just come out to see the canoes race using paddles for rudders, large sails on Saturday, etc.  Support your club, come out to an event as an observer, we all do not just need to race or sail.  Sometimes it is just nice to support a club event by just being there, listening, added comments, what ever.  Be a sailor, come out this weekend.  And if you have not known what an ACA canoe is check out their website.  And NSC has been a host before and the canoes just love our race setup and members. P.S.  ACA canoes will be using separate marks from other fleets.  Their course will be inside any other race course; this adds some complexity but keeps them in clear air.  They are very low to the water.  See ya on the water!
