2011 Steelman Triathlon wrap up report

I would like to thank our NSC Volunteers for getting up before dawn this Sunday morning to help with the 7th Steelman Triathlon event. We had 11 sailboats, two club boats and two kayaks join our fleet of sail club volunteers. Several of us slept over on our sailboats at our slips. Our rocking sailboats and the rain storm helped or hindered our good night sleep. At 5:00am I poked my head out of my cabin and was amazed to see the marina parking was already completely packed with cars and athletes walking around in the rain. By the time we met at the launch ramp for our 5:30am and Dale’s 6:30am meeting the rain had finally stopped. Our sailboats were anchored and ready before the first 7:00am shot gun Olympic swim race. I am proud to announce our NSC Flying Scot Judy Morrison was in the fourth wave of Olympic swimmers. Judy’s time was 3hrs and 15 second and she placed 6 in her age group of 23! Judy even took a moment as she swam by our sailboats to shout out hello! GO JUDY!!

If you have never experienced volunteering for the Steelman Triathlon, I challenge everyone to join us next year, August 5th. I am not a morning person, but you can not help to be charged up by the athletes’ energy, plus your get a cool triathlon shirt and it is for a great cause “Make a Wish Foundation”!
