"Suo Gan" - Our 1983 Com Pac 19 - Gil & Carole
I am starting a blog about our CP19. Carole and I just completed our second season sailing this wonderful boat. After deciding to move up from our 1990 CP16, we found this striking looking black hull boat at a marina in Toms River, NJ. We had a trailer built for it and brought it back to Pennsylvania in May of 2008. I have made improvements and adjustments to this craft and we really like its comfort, stability and size.

Suo Gan has a 2007 6HP Mercury 4 Stroke, North Sails w/roller reefed jib, Sunbrella cushions inside and out, many electrical mods including solar charging and an electric bige pump, satellite (Sirius) radio, VHF radio, the interior sink/table option.
I want to credit our good friend, Ralph Ericson, for taking the sailing photos of us. Ralph owns and sails a beautiful CP 19, Patricia Lee.
The hull was painted with black Imron by the previous owner. This was a very popular, very tough paint system used on large trucks and commercial aircraft for many years. It has done well on Suo Gan too.
We will add on more blog entries as time moves forward. Fair winds to all, Gil and Carole

You are on top of the topic. I added diodes for night time reversing. My panel is 17 watts and it keeps the battery charged but the battery size is a bit small for night use. Unless the battery is new (1 to 2 years) the anchor light can drain it down. I am changing over to LED lights this winter. Found some cabin lights by SeaSense that have a bezel for a 5-1/2 inch mounting for about $24. One day you should write a brief article on your satallite radio, its use and functions. NSC sailors may need to know more.
I have been fortunate enough to sail with Gil and Carole numerous times, and I can attest to the beauty of Suo Gan, inside and out. Gil and Carole have a knack for adding touches to a boat that are very impressive, and in my opinion, Suo Gan is one of the prettiest boats on the lake! Looking forward to following this blog!

My two solar panels are mounted on the main hatch in a custom wood frame I fabricated. The boom and main provide some "shade" but there are not many totally out in the sun places to practically mount solar panels. The two panels put out about 10 watts and I use a small Morningstar charge regulator although it may not be necessary. (It does prevent current reversing at night)
We typically use the boat on Saturday and Sunday and have the satallite radio on all the time. This past season we went from the weekend before Memorial Day well into late August before I had to pull the battery out for a full charge at home. In several previous years I have gone all eason on the solar charging.

You boat always looks so nice on the lake. Black is not a common color. Warren Ibaugh back in the 1980-1990 period had a Black J-22 "Hawk" on the lake. Has your solar on the boat worked well? I have used a panel for years. Please share on your adventures and thanks for posting on the new site.
Gil,
I look forward to reading about your adventures!
