FLYING SCOT WIFE-HUSBAND RESULTS
2007 Wife-Husband Championships
(news pending)
2006 "Wife-Husband" Championships Report.
The 2006 "Wife-Husband" National Championships were held on Lake Murray, SC over the Memorial Day weekend. This is a BIG Lake -- 50,000 acres -- with opportunity to set large race courses!! It was "hot" (95) but the breezes held for a good five-race Series. 39 boats registered -- 24 in the Championship Fleet, and 15 in the Challenger Fleet. Mike and Brenda Noone represented the Nockamixon Fleet, and finished Second in the Challenger Fleet -- the highest finish ever for a Nockamixon boat in a National Event!!
Mike experienced a "senior moment" in the first race when, after a "Course Change" was signaled for the second lap, he proceeded to the original Mark set for the first lap!! It turned out OK after most of the Fleet made the same mistake!! After going to the correct mark, and having a great spinnaker run, the kite got stuck, and was badly torn in the takedown before the final windward leg to the finish!! The resulting 6th Place was the worst of the Series.
In the second race, despite flying a spinnaker with a big hole in it (!!) we finished Second and had some great tacking duels with the eventual winner of the Challenger Division. Great Racing and great competition!! We repaired the spinnaker for the last three races, and were consistently in the top 5 in the same shifty Lake conditions that we experience at Nockamixon!!
The Crew of "Hi-Noone" came away with one of the major Awards of the Regatta -- the Eric and Mary Ammann Award for the Highest Placed Crew whose combined age is over 100!! Our 2nd place in the Challenger Division beat the 4th Place finish of Harry and Karen Carpenter in the Championship Division!! The Noone's also won the "Longest Married" Award -- only because Len and Helen did not participate this year!!
There is no substitute for participation in National Events to get the full experience of sailing the Scot with people who really know how to sail the boat!! The winners of the Championship Division were World Class Lightning Sailors who have recently converted to the Scot because of the great competition, camaraderie, and fun that exists in the Flying Scot Class.
